Hallo everybody, welcome back to my blog! this time I will tell you about one of the reading techniques, that is previewing and predicting which delivered by Diah Mustika, Aryo Ramagenis, Lia Kurniasari, and Andita Zahwa at the meeting on November 10, 2021. So, let's get started!
What is previewing and predicting?
Previewing is checking over the text in order to become well-known its content before actually begin to reading it.
Predicting is readers ability to understand to think about what is going on next based on the clue of the text by making informed prediction.
Purpose of Previewing and Predicting
- Get some ideas of what to read.
- To follow the writer's ideas well.
- Get information faster.
- Active reader can preview a text in order to predict it likely content.
What is it used to?
- Maps
- Text book
- Pictures
- Diagrams
- Charts
- Book cover
Guidelines to do Previewing and Predicting
- Read the title: What is the passage about?
- What kind of the text it is? An essay, a story, or an explanation?
- Look at the way text organized.
- Read very quickly the first line of each paragraph.
- Notice name, number, dates, and words that are repeated.
- Read quickly the last sentences in final paragraph.
