    Hallo everybody, welcome back to my blog! this time I will tell you about one of the reading techniques, that is skimming which delivered by Me, Sindi Tia U, Loly Meidyan, and Margaretha M. at the meeting on December 1, 2021. Let's get started!

Definition of Skimming

    Skimming is a reading technique that use rapid eye-movement and keywords to move quickly through text for slightly different purpose. Skimming is the process of quickly viewing a section of the text to get general impression of the writer's main argument, themes or idea.

Types of Skimming

1. Preview Skimming is used in surveying a chapter before reading or studying, finding appropriate material for use in research.
2. Overview Skimming used to sample reading material more thoroughly than you do in a preview.
3. Review Skimming is to re-familiarise yourself with the material you have previously read or skimmed.

Steps to do Skimming

1. Read the title
2. Read the introduction
3. Read paragraph completely
4. Read the first sentence of each paragraph.
5. Dip into text.
6. Read the final paragraph completely.

The Function of Skimming

1. To get overview of the text and get main point.
2. To gather necessary information without wasting time.
3. To gather the gist of the text.
4. To look through a text to decide whether you want to read or not.
